Description
This image shows the White Dagoba that is situated in the middle of Jade Flower Island. In my image titled “Beihai Park – 2” I have shown the steep steps that one needs to climb to get to the foot of the dagoba. This image obviously was taken from a totally different vantage point at the park.
The White Dagoba is a 40-meter (130 ft) high stupa made of white stone and placed on the highest point on Jade Flower Island. It was built to honour the visit of the 5th Dalai Lama in 1651. Sun, moon and flame engravings decorate the surface of the tower. The dagoba was destroyed in 1679 by an earthquake, but it was rebuilt the following year, and restored again in 1976 after the earthquake which occurred near Beijing at Tangsha . Inside the main body of the dagoba are kept, in secret locations, Buddhist scriptures, monk’s mantles, alms bowl, and the bones and remains of several monks (their remains after cremation).
More information about Beihai Park is in my first image by the same title.
I hope you like this scene.
