Description
After walking from the Trocadero area towards the Eiffel Tower and its lawns and gardens (and past hordes of people jogging and walking their dogs and having picnics with traditional French wine and cheese on a blanket), we get greeted by this massive structure looming in the distance.
The ole Militaire (military training school) is a vast complex of buildings located southeast of the Champ de Mars (the large green space area in front of the Eiffel Tower which includes its lawns and gardens which were formerly used as drilling and marching grounds by the French military).
The ole Militaire was founded by Louis XV in 1750. Its purpose as I understand it was to have an academic college for cadet officers who come from poor families. This is the school where Napoleon Bonaparte graduated from. I guess he came from a poor family??? Time to look this one up!
