Description
The design of the Eiffel Tower is typically attributed to Monsieur Gustave Eiffel who was a very successful French civil engineer with a very successful career at the time. However, very few people know that the original design of this monument was the brainchild of two lesser-known men Maurice Koechlin and Emile Nouguier. These two men, with the help of the French architect Stephen Sauvestre submitted their plans (under the Gustave Eiffel Engineering firm) to a contest that would determine the centerpiece for the 1889 Worlds Fair in Paris. They won the contest, and the tower was built to commemorate the centennial of the French Revolution, as well as to demonstrate Frances industrial prowess to the world.
And that is Gustaves legacy to the world today.
