Description
This is an image of Comayagua’s first church called Iglesia de La Merced. Building of this church started in 1550 and was elevated to the category of cathedral in 1561becoming one of the first in America. It was the first church ever to built in Honduras, and was called initially Church of the Immaculate Conception. The main Altarpiece was built in 1820 by the carpenter Coronado Chávez, who in 1845 became the president of Honduras. The altar has several interesting golden pieces in addition to images of the Dolorosa, the Nazareno, San Pedro, San Juan and the Virgen de la Merced of the seventeenth century.
One of its towers was the site that initially housed the clock Moro Donado by Felipe III (currently still in a working condition).
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
