Description
This is an image of the Vendôme Column, located at Place Vendome in Paris. As I have stated in previous images, Place Vendôme is a square in Paris located to the north of the Tuileries Gardens. It was laid out in 1702 as a monument to the glory of the armies of Louis XIV.
The original column was started in 1806 at Napoleon's direction and was completed in 1810. It was modelled after Trajan's Column to celebrate the victory of the battle of Austerlitz. Its veneer is made out of 425 spiralling bas-relief bronze plates made out of cannon taken from the combined armies of Europe. The plates were designed by various famous sculptors of the time. Only the base of the column is shown here.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
