Description
This is an image of the Maugher Beach Lighthouse running of McNab's Island across from the City of Halifax's waterfront area.
For over a century and a half the view seaward from Halifax has been marked by the long arm of Maugher Beach that is punctuated by this lighthouse. Every ship ever to call at Halifax has passed within a musket shot of it's tower, called by the locals "our own Statue of Liberty" as it stands at the inner entrance to Halifax harbour.
Maugher Beach has seen its share of shipwrecks and lost lives as early as 1789. One of the things that you will notice in this image in the background is an old freighter that had been holed by an iceberg and managed to limp into the Halifax Harbour in the late 1970's. As you can imagine, this lighthouse is not accessible to the public and is only managed and maintained by the Royal Canadian Navy.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
