Description
The Prague Metro is the rapid transit network of Prague in the Czech Republic. It was founded in 1974 and now comprises three lines (A, B and C). It serves 61 stations (predominantly with island platforms) and consists of a transit network about 65 kilometres (40 miles) long. It is estimated that it serves about 1.6 million passengers every day, thus making it the fifth busiest metro system in Europe. All the lines are controlled automatically from a central dispatching station. The metro is run by the Prague Public Transit Company which manages all means of public transport around the city.
I found the metro system to be EXTREMELY clean, extremely punctual, and very beautiful in design. Every station has its own unique brilliant colours as shown in the next few images. Also, some of the escalators to the various platforms were "scary" deep below ground level. The depth of the stations (and the connecting lines) varies considerably, but some of the platforms are more than 50 metres (170 ft) below ground level with very long and quite sloped escalators.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
