Description
Wenceslas Square is one of the main city squares and the centre of the business and cultural communities in the City of Prague in a district called New Town. The square is named after Saint Wenceslas, the patron saint of Bohemia. It is part of the historic centre of Prague, a World Heritage Site.
Less a square than a boulevard, Wenceslas Square has the shape of a very long rectangular area (750 m long with an area of about 45,000 m2), and it runs in a northwest–southeast direction. The street slopes upward to the southeast side. At that end, it is dominated by the grand neoclassical Czech National Museum. The northwest end runs up against the border between the New Town and the Old Town. During my visit, unfortunately, the museum’s dome was under heavy construction and would have made for a very unpleasant background for any image of that area). As I described in my previous photos, Wenceslas Square is lined by hotels, offices, retail stores, currency exchange booths and fast-food joints. This is just a sample scene (and I LOVED the stone designs on the sidewalks)!
For more on the history of this area please see my previous 2 images.
