Description
This is an image of the main square and city center in the City of Comayagua. It is a colonial city in Honduras, some 50 miles (80 km) northwest of Tegucigalpa and sits at an elevation of about 1,950 feet above sea level. It is also the capital of the Comayagua Department of Honduras, with a population of about 152,000 people. The city is noted for its wealth of Spanish Colonial and colorful architecture, and has become a national and international draw for tourism. It is on the list of The 30 Wonders of Honduras. Each week Comayagua receives almost 200 travelers interested in its colonial heritage.
From this scene you can see that the central square has many shops and cafes and can be a magnet for tourists. There is a cathedral with the oldest clock in the Americas on the other side facing the shops. Comayagua is headquarters of Club Hispano, of the Honduran National Soccer League. Comayagua was host to the first International Fellowship of Christian Athletes Motocross camp in September 2012. The camp was instructed by professional riders from the United States. The camp was followed by a race in memory of Dylan First, a US rider who lost his life on the track the previous year. This is now an annual event in Comayagua with instructors from the US and leaders from Honduras.
This image is taken from the center of the square.
