Description
During the COVID-19 pandemic, I had to turn to what I would call "isolation" photography. I created my own happy space with various objects that are dear to my heart and started exploring macro imaging. Needless to say, it was much more difficult than I thought but I had LOTS of fun creating the images in this series. I hope you enjoy them as much as I did.
This is an image of the... you guessed it right.... part of the Period Table, processed with the Orton Effect (also known as Orton Imagery or Orton Slide Sandwich). This photography technique was started by photographer Michael Orton in the mid 1980, and it blends two different photos of the same scene, with the end result showing a distinctive mix of high and low detail areas. He overlay two or more images of an identical scene with very different exposures on slide film (hence the name Slide Sandwich), with one image being sharply focused and the other (or others) are very out of focus. This technique is mostly used in landscape photography, but I thought I would screw things up and try it in macro.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
