Description
As I described in my previous series of images, the Grand Canyon dominates a 277-mile stretch in Northern Arizona, and it is one of the world’s most iconic landscapes. Representing more than 1.7 billion years of geologic majesty, it is classified as a World Heritage Site and one of the natural wonders of the world, and it keeps to awe and inspire nearly five million visitors every year with its grandeur and expanse. It is also considered a sacred landscape to more than ten Native American tribes who have called the region home for millennia. Moreover, it is one of the greatest symbols of the values of wild nature and is home to many types of wildlife.
The Grand Canyon is the result of constant erosion by the Colorado River over millions and millions of years. The Colorado River, which flows through the canyon, touches seven states, and flows 1,450 miles from its headwaters atop Poudre Pass in Rocky Mountain National Park to the Gulf of California in Mexico. Draining over 246,000 square miles, the Colorado River is truly the lifeblood of the American Southwest. Also dozens of creeks, springs, and tributaries connect with the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon, including the Little Colorado, Kanab Creek, Havasu Creek, and Bright Angel Creek.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
