Description
Hopi Point is one the viewing points (bus stops) along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in Arizona heading west from the park's entrance. Unless you want to walk to it, you can only reach it by taking the shuttle bus. This is the northernmost spot on this part of the South Rim, and the first point where much more of the western Grand Canyon comes into full perspective (another 20 miles from where the Colorado River begins a big bend northwards). This allows views all the way to Havasupai Point and the Great Scenic Divide.
Hopi Point has a fenced viewing area next to the road, and a vista over the canyon centered on Dana Butte, a flat mesa 2,000 feet below the overlook. Salt Creek runs to one side, meeting the Colorado River at a series of rapids, while Monument Creek is on the other side, joining the river at another set (Granite Rapids).
According to a National Geographic source, Hopi point is one of the most popular canyon viewing points on the Southwest Rim, especially for photographing the sunset.
All images are taken with a Canon 5D III (full frame) and a Canon 7D II (crop frame) using a variety of Canon L-Series lenses, and Tamron and Sigma pro-line lenses; processed in RAW with ACR, PSC, Photomatix, and a variety of other imaging software.
